Bryan sets 2025-26 Virgin Islands holiday work schedule and administrative leave

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a proclamation on Dec. 9, 2025, setting the 2025-26 holiday work schedule for the Virgin Islands government and authorizing commissioners and agency heads to grant administrative leave to nonessential employees for Christmas Eve, Crucian Christmas Festival events and New Year’s observances.

Under the proclamation, nonessential employees territorywide were eligible for administrative leave from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2025, for Christmas Eve, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2026, for the St. Croix Crucian Christmas Festival Children’s Parade.

On St. Croix, nonessential employees were also eligible for administrative leave from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2025, for J’ouvert, the St. Croix Festival Food Fair and New Year’s Eve activities. On St. Thomas and St. John, nonessential employees were eligible for administrative leave from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2025, for New Year’s Eve observances.

The proclamation said the leave did not apply to essential employees, employees on regular or rotating shifts, or employees already on annual or sick leave during the designated times.

The legal holidays listed in the proclamation were Christmas Day on Dec. 25, 2025; Christmas Second Day on Dec. 26, 2025; New Year’s Day on Jan. 1, 2026; and Three Kings Day on Jan. 6, 2026.
