Government House said on January 8, 2026, that a woman died following a suspected shark attack at Dorsch Beach on St. Croix.

According to the statement, Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach had been briefed on the information available as of Thursday evening.

Government House said agencies involved included the Virgin Islands Police Department, St. Croix Rescue, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Coast Guard, which searched the beach area on the evening of January 8 following the incident.
