Fight Night followed EA Sports' previous boxing series, Knockout Kings, and had five editions produced for various platforms between 2004 and 2011. The series was critically acclaimed and a staple at the top of the sales charts.
Mike Straw of Insider Gaming reported last month that sources said plans for a Fight Night reboot were canceled. However, EA Sports' sale to a group led by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund left some hope alive because of the PIF's "major stake in boxing."
The return of Fight Night comes at a booming period for video games. EA Sports has already revived its college football series and launched the sixth edition of its UFC series earlier this year. Rockstar's highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is coming next month and reportedly has already generated over $600 million in pre-sales alone.
EA Sports was also likely influenced to bring back Fight Night after seeing the popularity of the Steel City Interactive boxing video game Undisputed, which was the first licensed boxing game since Fight Night 's last release in 2011.
Fans will certainly be excited to see the continued development of EA Sports' Fight Night reboot before its much-anticipated release.
