The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on September 10, 2025, that it had launched a campaign aimed at reducing strain on the electric grid as late-summer heat increased energy demand in the territory.

WAPA said it was asking customers to conserve electricity during peak hours from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The authority said steps such as setting thermostats between 72 and 78 degrees, limiting use of major appliances and turning off unnecessary lights could help reduce outages and support grid stability.

WAPA also said its battery energy storage systems were being used to help maintain grid reliability and generating capacity, and that it was expanding deployment of the units to strengthen critical infrastructure.
