Bryan proclaimed January observances and ordered flags at half-staff through Jan. 28

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a January 2025 proclamation covering several territorial observances, including an order that flags be flown at half-staff at Government House and on public buildings and grounds through Jan. 28, 2025, in honor of former President Jimmy Carter.

The proclamation, issued pursuant to Virgin Islands law and 4 U.S.C. § 7 and in line with President Joe Biden’s Dec. 30, 2024 executive order, also urged private building owners in the territory to fly flags at half-staff. Bryan authorized commissioners and agency heads to grant administrative leave to non-essential government employees from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, as a mark of respect for Carter. The leave did not apply to essential employees, workers on regular or rotating shifts, or employees on annual or sick leave.

Bryan also recognized National Catholic Schools Week, scheduled for Jan. 26 through Feb. 1, 2025, and declared Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In addition, Bryan proclaimed Jan. 19-25, 2025, as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Week. The proclamation noted that the St. Croix Alumnae Chapter would mark its 50th anniversary on Jan. 25, 2025.
