Bryan says Public Works commissioner was on approved leave during stadium hearing
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said in a June 12, 2025, statement that Public Works Commissioner Derek Gabriel missed a Senate committee hearing on the Paul E. Joseph Stadium project because he was on previously approved personal leave.
Bryan said Government House had communicated with Committee Chair Sen. Angel Bolques Jr. in the weeks before the hearing to coordinate a date for Gabriel to appear and had said the commissioner would be unavailable on the date ultimately selected.
The statement said the hearing proceeded without a schedule change even though Gabriel was the administration official prepared to provide an update on the stadium project.
Bryan also said his administration remained committed to transparency and accountability on the stadium redevelopment and that Gabriel would testify at a rescheduled hearing.
