U.S. Education Department reinstated ARPA grant extension for Virgin Islands, restoring access to more than $34 million
The U.S. Department of Education reinstated an extension of the liquidation period for American Rescue Plan Act Education Stabilization Fund grants for the U.S. Virgin Islands, restoring access to more than $34 million in federal education funding, Government House said on June 27, 2025.
Government House said Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced the decision after meetings in Washington, D.C., including a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.
According to the statement, the earlier policy change had put the territory at risk of losing ARPA funds intended for school modernization and safety projects.
Government House said the reinstated extension would allow the Virgin Islands Department of Education to proceed with projects including emergency backup generators, air-conditioning upgrades and other school facility improvements.
