Bryan said Legislature approved retroactive pay funding and $6 million Pafford settlement

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on April 14, 2025, that the 36th Legislature was considering two appropriations: one to fund retroactive wages for government employees and another to support a $6 million settlement with Pafford Medical Services.

According to Government House, the retroactive-pay measure would reappropriate $22 million that had been allocated to the proposed Nazareth sports complex near Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.

Bryan also said his administration had negotiated the Pafford settlement to resolve obligations tied to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, the Department of Health, Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and the Bureau of Corrections.

Government House said the Legislature later voted in favor of both appropriations on April 14, 2025, authorizing funding for retroactive wages and approving the settlement payment.

During the briefing, Bryan also discussed tourism, infrastructure and recovery projects, including work on Mahogany Road on St. Croix, Veterans Drive on St. Thomas, the Arthur A. Richards PreK-8 School and Paul E. Joseph Stadium. He said he was scheduled to meet on April 15, 2025, with British Virgin Islands Premier Natalio Wheatley at Government House on St. Thomas to continue discussions on the marine charter yacht industry.

Bryan also issued a Holy Week message during the briefing.
