Bryan issues Martin Luther King Jr. Day statement for Jan. 20, 2025
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on Jan. 19, 2025, marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20 and urging Virgin Islanders to reflect on King's legacy of justice, equality and service.
In the statement, Bryan said residents should "not only dream of the world we want to see but actively work to create it."
Bryan also referenced gun violence in the U.S. Virgin Islands, calling it a threat to community safety and unity, and said the territory should draw on King's example of determination and collective action in confronting the issue.
The statement called for reflection, service and community engagement, and urged residents to promote equity and foster an environment in which people feel valued and respected.
