In a significant operation within St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) has heightened its efforts to locate 48-year-old Arnold Malone following a perilous encounter with law enforcement. Malone, who has previously had run-ins with the law, is now the focal point of a manhunt after allegedly firing at police officers during a stop in the Altona vicinity.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Friday when Malone was involved in a confrontation with officers during a routine stop on Veterans Drive. The situation took a dangerous turn as Malone reportedly discharged a firearm at the officers and then evaded capture on foot after abandoning his vehicle at a separate location.

Malone is described by the VIPD as a black male, standing 5’4” tall and weighing about 175 lbs. He is considered to be armed and potentially dangerous, prompting the VIPD to caution the public against approaching him and to report any sightings to the authorities immediately.

To assist in Malone’s capture, the community is urged to contact the VIPD by dialing 911, reaching out to the CIB/Major Crime unit at (340) 642-8449, or submitting tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers VI at 1(800) 222-8477 (TIPS), or via their online platform.

The VIPD is deploying all available resources to this case, emphasizing its commitment to public safety and the prompt apprehension of Malone. This event underscores the inherent dangers law enforcement officers face while performing their duties and the VIPD’s dedication to maintaining order and security within the community.
