The Virgin Islands Office of Cannabis Regulations (OCR) has marked a significant milestone in the cannabis industry’s development by launching an innovative online portal. This portal is a strategic initiative designed to streamline the licensing and registration processes for key players in the marijuana sector.

Aligned with the regulatory framework established by the territory’s Cannabis Use Act, the portal exemplifies the OCR’s commitment to efficient application processing and strict adherence to legal mandates. The primary focus of this digital platform, as of now, is to cater to practitioners and sacramental organizations. It provides a clear, structured process for their registration, demonstrating the government’s organized approach to the emerging marijuana industry.

The OCR has planned a gradual expansion of the portal’s accessibility. Following the initial phase for practitioners and sacramental organizations, the portal will open to patients and sacramental marijuana users in April, a step that resonates with the community’s needs. By June or July, marijuana business agents are expected to gain access, keeping pace with the one-year timeline stipulated by the Cannabis Use Act, enacted on January 18, 2023.

The Office of Cannabis Regulations also announced an engaging initiative: a series of “Fireside Chats.” This series is set to foster a dynamic and inclusive dialogue among the marijuana industry’s stakeholders. These virtual discussions will allow participants to directly engage with regulatory processes, offering their insights and feedback. This move exemplifies Governor Bryan’s vision of inclusive governance and stakeholder engagement in policymaking.

Scheduled across four sessions, the “Fireside Chats” will cater to different groups, ensuring focused and relevant discussions. Practitioners will meet on January 25, followed by sacramental organizations on February 1, medicinal patients on February 15, and sacramental marijuana users on February 29, with each session starting at 6:00 p.m. This initiative underscores the OCR’s dedication to transparency and stakeholder participation in the unfolding narrative of marijuana regulation in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

These developments, including the phased registration rollout and the interactive “Fireside Chats,” highlight the U.S. Virgin Islands’ proactive and responsible approach to regulating the marijuana industry, ensuring compliance, transparency, and community involvement.
