Among these shining stars is high school senior and esteemed Virgin Islands Sports Ambassador, Michelle Smith of Montverde Academy, who is leading the charge with her remarkable achievements.

Michelle Smith’s Stellar Performance at Virginia Showcase 2024

The Virginia Showcase 2024, held in Virginia Beach, witnessed a historic moment for the Montverde Academy team, courtesy of Michelle Smith’s outstanding performance in the 4 x 400m relay. The team set a new National High School record with a time of 3:37.63, surpassing the two-decade-old record of Long Beach Poly High School, California. Smith’s impressive 53.79 split played a crucial role in this victory. Her prowess was further highlighted in the 500m race, where she clinched third place nationally with a season-best of 1:14.31.

The spotlight remains on Michelle Smith as she prepares to compete at the RADD Sunshine Showcase in Gainesville, Florida, scheduled for January 20, 2024.

Sofia Swindell’s Victory at Hill vs. Lawrenceville Indoor Meet

The Virgin Islands’ talent pool deepens with Sofia Swindell, a junior from Lawrence School, who triumphed at the Hill vs. Lawrenceville 2024 Indoor Track Meet. Swindell clinched the 55m final with a personal best of 7.24 and was instrumental in her school’s 4 x 400m relay team securing the top state ranking in New Jersey, clocking in at 3:50.79.

VITFF Developmental Meets: A Showcase of Emerging Talent

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) recently organized the 3rd VITFF Developmental Meet in St. Croix, which took place on January 11, 2024. This event highlighted young talent in the U13, U17, and Open categories. However, the 1st VITFF Developmental Meet in St. Thomas on January 13, 2024, experienced a lower turnout, impacting the competition schedule.

The VITFF Developmental Meet was a stage for exceptional performances, with athletes from various clubs and schools excelling in their events. Notable winners included Zavier Saleem, Lellene Huggins, Yahraya Doctrine, Anna Simon, Ayden Cintron, Olivia Jones, Malachi Maclorrain, Kirra Lambert, Nathan Langley, Faith Eatmon, Vedant Mittal, A’Sharia Bernadine, Davina Browne, Wilfredo Concepcion, Cole Summer, and Safiya Prasad.
