The 2024 CARIFTA Games in Grenada concluded with Michelle Smith capturing two gold medals, solidifying her status as a track sensation. Smith delivered a spectacular performance at the Kirani James Stadium, clocking an impressive 56.28 in the U20 Girls 400m hurdles on Sunday, marking her third consecutive win in the event.

The following day, Smith outshone a competitive field of six athletes to retain her title, securing her sixth gold medal at CARIFTA. Her strategic prowess was on full display during the second 400 meters, where she surged ahead of her competitors, leaving the Jamaican contenders, Monique Stewart and Kitania Headley, and Haiti’s Victoria Guerrier, trailing in her wake. Smith’s dominant legwork and unwavering pace set her apart, allowing her to extend her lead and finish with a time of 2:06.18, narrowly missing the record for the event.

Ricardo Chambers, the announcer, lauded Smith’s performance, declaring her one of the standout athletes of the 2024 CARIFTA Games. Haiti’s Guerrier clinched second place, finishing 1.27 seconds behind Smith, while Jamaica’s Stewart took third with a time of 2:07.56.
