Liberty VI has kicked off a significant fiber optic installation project at Sion Farm and the Sunny Isle Shopping Center in St. Croix, with the goal of boosting high-speed internet connectivity throughout the region.

Set to start on Thursday, April 25, the project is slated for completion in about five weeks. This initiative includes setting up a new mobile site at Sion Farm and expanding fiber connectivity to Sunny Isle Shopping Center and its surrounding residential zones. Ravindra Maywahlall, the general manager of Liberty VI, commented, “With the necessary permits in place, we’re progressing with our Fiber to the Home projects to extend fiber fast internet to more areas within the territory.”

The work at Sion Farm involves laying underground conduits and fiber optic cables required for the new mobile site. The company also plans to perform micro-trenching along parts of Queen Mary Highway, routing behind the Sunny Isle Shopping Center and crossing Pepper Tree Road. These construction activities are scheduled to occur on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In an effort to lessen the environmental impact, Liberty VI will employ micro-trenching techniques. This method includes making a narrow cut, about 1 ¾ inches deep, in the pavement and using existing ducts to minimize pavement damage and dust production. Such techniques are expected to improve the network’s resilience against natural disasters and reduce the risk of vandalism.

Residents and commuters in the impacted regions should expect minor traffic disruptions, including lane and partial road closures. Liberty VI recommends that residents of Estate Sion Farm park their vehicles on their properties to avoid street obstructions and potential vehicle damage.
