WAPA said fake Facebook page was not an official source of information

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on August 20, 2019, that a Facebook page using the name "USVI Water and Power Authority" was not an official source of information and should be disregarded.

WAPA said the page used the authority's logos and branding and posted what it described as misrepresentations about the utility. Executive Director Lawrence J. Kupfer said the authority was working with Facebook to have the account removed and would take steps to stop unauthorized use of its intellectual property.

WAPA said its official Facebook page was "Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority." The authority also said information was available through its website, telephone messaging system, Twitter account and WAPA Alerts service.
