Tourism commissioner met with media and airlines in Atlanta, Chicago and New York
U.S. Virgin Islands Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty met with media representatives and airline officials in Atlanta, Chicago and New York during the week before April 16, 2018, to provide updates on the territory’s tourism recovery, according to Government House.
Government House said Nicholson-Doty addressed about 200 delegates at the National Association of Black Journalists Region III Conference in Atlanta and appeared on CNN International’s CNN Newsroom with Lynda Kinkade. She also met with journalists from the Chicago Sun-Times, the New York Daily News and TravelPulse.
In Chicago, Nicholson-Doty and Virgin Islands Port Authority Executive Director David Mapp met with United Airlines and discussed accommodations and tourism offerings in the territory. Government House said United was scheduled to resume service to St. Thomas on April 21, 2018, from Newark, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., with Houston service to restart later in April and daily flights from Washington Dulles International Airport planned for early June through late August.
In New York, Nicholson-Doty and Mapp held similar talks with JetBlue Airways and attended an airline training program, according to the statement.
Government House said Nicholson-Doty reported that power had been restored across the territory, beaches and attractions had reopened, cruise lines and airlines had returned, and a range of accommodations was available as rebuilding continued.
