Bryan asked DeSantis to reconsider Florida cruise vaccination law

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on June 7, 2021, that he had sent a letter to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis asking him to reconsider legislation barring cruise ships departing from Florida ports from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Bryan said the Florida measure conflicted with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance and could hinder the restart of the cruise industry.

Bryan also said he sent a separate letter on June 7 to CARICOM Chairman Ralph Gonsalves, who is also prime minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, seeking regional support for a path to restart cruising.

In the letter to DeSantis, Bryan asked for reconsideration of the law or an exemption for cruise lines serving Caribbean destinations. In the letter to Gonsalves, he said Caribbean islands had faced difficulties verifying visitors' vaccination status amid challenges obtaining vaccines.
