Virgin Islands begins issuing more than 8,000 income tax refunds for 2020 returns

Government House said on June 21, 2022, that Virgin Islands residents who filed their 2020 tax returns on time and whose returns had no issues had begun receiving refunds for that tax year.

Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. said 5,152 checks were sent during the previous week and another 5,513 were scheduled for issuance later that week. He said 8,637 of those checks were for 2020 tax refunds and that the latest distribution totaled $25 million.

At the same briefing, Government House said the application deadline for the GVI Financial Fellows program had been extended to July 15, 2022.

Officials also said residents who were having trouble contacting government offices affected by COVID-19 disruptions could seek assistance through the Office of the Administrator on each island.

Territorial Epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis said during the June 21 briefing that COVID-19 vaccines had been approved for children as young as 6 months. Government House said pediatric vaccinations were available on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

Government House reported a 7.67% seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate on June 21, with 184 active cases and four hospitalized patients across the territory.
