Bryan barred Easter camping at Virgin Islands beaches from March 22 to April 10

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on March 16, 2021, that Easter camping would be prohibited at beaches across the U.S. Virgin Islands under the territory’s public health emergency related to COVID-19.

The prohibition applied to all beaches from March 22 through April 10, according to Government House.

In the announcement, Bryan said the restriction was intended to prevent a setback in efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 during the vaccination campaign. He also cited reports of spring-break crowds in other jurisdictions ignoring masking and distancing rules.

The notice said guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Virgin Islands Department of Health called for people to wear masks in public, remain 6 feet apart and avoid large gatherings.
