The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on December 7, 2022, that its employee holiday events on St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John cost the authority about $12,000 out of pocket in total.

WAPA said the St. Croix event at the Castle was held using discounted rates from businesses and that the venue was donated after the authority sought a location that could accommodate more than 200 people on the selected date.

The authority said the events were not funded with taxpayer dollars and that much of the funding came from wellness funds contributed by Cigna, WAPA's health insurer, for employee wellness and welfare events.
