Carnival Cultural Food Fair honored woodworkers group and announced 2018 winners

The 66th annual Carnival Cultural Food Fair opened in Emancipation Garden on April 25, 2018, with Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp and Lt. Gov. Osbert E. Potter joining Carnival Queen Ji’Kelle K. Michael and her court on the gazebo.

The fair honored the St. Thomas-St. John Woodworkers Society Inc. for its artwork and community contributions. Government House said the group was formed in 2005 and had presented workshops, after-school programs and craft demonstrations in the territory. The society also won Best in Show at the fair in 2015 and 2017.

Government House identified the 2018 winners as Vincent Henley of Gladys Abraham School in the plants category, Ronelle Allenberg for produce, Caprice Robles in the special food category for johnny cakes, and Yolanda Morton in arts and crafts.

Potter said the fair gave residents a chance to sample local foods, including whelks and rice. Mapp thanked vendors for participating and urged support for the children’s parade while wishing the public a safe Carnival.
