Upgraded Vendors Plaza and new public restrooms opened on St. Thomas
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. joined a ribbon-cutting ceremony on St. Thomas on April 17, 2023, for the reopening of the upgraded Vendors Plaza and the opening of new public restrooms across from the plaza.
The upgraded plaza on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront includes 16 kiosks replacing tent structures that had stood adjacent to Fort Christian. According to Government House, the kiosks were built to withstand a Category 3 hurricane and include electricity for lighting, roller-door openings on each side, storage drawers and a 3-foot roof overhang.
Government House said the new restroom building also includes a Banco Popular ATM. The lobby features photographs of historic Charlotte Amalie.
The Vendors Plaza was established in the early 1990s as a centralized selling space for vendors who had been operating in streets and alleys around Charlotte Amalie.
