WAPA said Midland Road underground utility work would resume May 2

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said road construction tied to an underground electrical project on Midland Road, also known as Route 663, would resume on May 2, 2022.

The work area was set to run from the Melvin H. Evans Highway to Queen Mary Highway. WAPA said portions of the southbound lane could be closed and full road closures could occur during the work, with flaggers assigned to direct traffic.

According to the notice, contractor VI Paving was scheduled to install underground electrical conduits to transition existing overhead service underground.

WAPA said the initial closures would be between the entrances at Cruz Street and Saldana Street along Midland Road. Southbound traffic was to be detoured along Cruz Street, Colon Street and Saldana Street before returning to Midland Road, with the reverse route for northbound traffic.

The closures were scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
