Bryan declared June 9, 2020 day of mourning for George Floyd and ordered flags at half-staff

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. declared June 9, 2020, a day of mourning in the U.S. Virgin Islands in honor of George Floyd and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and ordered flags in the territory to be flown at half-staff.

The June 8, 2020 announcement also asked residents to commit to change through community involvement, economic support, voter registration and participation, leadership roles, and opposition to inequality and injustice.

Government House said American and U.S. Virgin Islands flags at workplaces were to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on June 9, 2020. Under U.S. flag protocol cited in the announcement, flags were to be raised briskly to full-staff before being lowered to half-staff and lowered at sunset unless the flagpoles were properly lit at night.
