U.S. Virgin Islands opened online COVID-19 vaccine scheduling to residents 16 and older

Virgin Islands Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion said at the Government House weekly briefing on March 8, 2021, that residents could complete required paperwork and schedule COVID-19 vaccination appointments through the Department of Health website at covid19usvi.com/vaccines.

The government said all Virgin Islanders age 16 and older were eligible for vaccination. Residents without internet access could book appointments at community vaccination centers by calling the VITEMA hotline at 340-777-8227.

The community vaccination centers were located at the University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall on St. Croix and UVI's Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas.

Government House said that as of March 7, 2021, 24,888 vaccine doses had been administered in the territory, including 16,929 first doses and 7,959 second doses.

At the same briefing, officials said some COVID-19 restrictions were eased beginning March 8, 2021. Restaurants were allowed to seat up to 75% of capacity and larger parties, taxis could carry more than 50% occupancy if passengers were from the same group, and beaches would remain open until 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Masking and social-distancing rules remained in effect.

Officials also said the Bureau of Internal Revenue planned to issue 7,000 additional stimulus checks totaling $4.3 million that week.
