Bryan announced more than $1.2 million in Office of Insular Affairs grants
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on Aug. 16, 2019, that the U.S. Virgin Islands had received more than $1.2 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs.
Government House said Bryan received the award letters after meeting with Dwayne Petersen, the Office of Insular Affairs policy specialist for the Virgin Islands and Guam.
According to the award letters, $606,061 was allocated to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center and Schneider Regional Medical Center for hazardous-waste disposal projects, and $303,000 was allocated to the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture for equipment purchases and repairs to inoperable machinery.
The grants also included $216,787 to support the USVI Coral Disease Response Strike Team, $74,467.61 to the Department of Planning and Natural Resources’ Coastal Zone Management Division for nuisance and invasive-species awareness, and $10,000 to the St. Croix Foundation for the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America development and training project.
