Bryan presented $337,750 to Caribbean Drag Racing Association for St. Croix track project
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. presented the Caribbean Drag Racing Association with a $337,750 check on Oct. 14, 2021, for work on the reconstruction of the drag racing track east of Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix.
Government House said the payment represented 50% of the total funding available to complete the project. Bryan was joined by Sports, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Calvert White and St. Croix Administrator Sammuel Sanes, and the check was presented to CDRA President Arthur Hector and Treasurer Ramon Cuencas.
According to Hector and Cuencas, the funding was to be used to install safety walls and fencing and to pave the track's return lane.
Government House said the association had received $500,000 in government funding in 2020 to begin work on the facility. That money, along with private support, paid for paving the main strip and building ADA-compliant bleachers and a judge's tower with a VIP section.
The association said it expected to complete the drag racing track by February 2022.
