WAPA reported isolated outages after Tropical Storm Isaias
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on July 31, 2020, that line crews were addressing several isolated electrical service interruptions in both districts after Tropical Storm Isaias.
WAPA said crews completed the installation of new utility poles and line transfers in the Golden Rock area by mid-afternoon on July 30 and planned to continue working on trouble calls overnight.
The authority said its power plants at Estate Richmond and Krum Bay operated without interruptions to power production during the storm, though some feeder outages occurred on July 29, the night of July 29, and the morning of July 30 because of increased winds.
WAPA said restoration work was suspended during higher winds on July 30 and resumed after winds subsided. By 9 a.m. on July 30, crews had shifted to isolated or pocket outages.
The authority also said there were no potable water service interruptions in either district during the storm.
WAPA said its governing board meeting scheduled for July 30 was postponed, but the board held an emergency meeting that afternoon. According to the authority, the board approved a provisional extension of the maturity dates of lines of credit and overdraft credit facilities with FirstBank until April 30, 2021, and a similar extension with Banco Popular until Oct. 31, 2020.
