Bryan welcomed Kappa Alpha Psi leader and delegation to U.S. Virgin Islands

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on June 6, 2019, that Thomas L. Battles Jr., grand polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., would visit the U.S. Virgin Islands with a delegation that weekend.

According to Antonio Emanuel, polemarch of the fraternity’s St. Croix Alumni Chapter, Battles, the organization’s 33rd grand polemarch, was to lead a six-member delegation to St. Croix and St. Thomas. Emanuel said the visit was intended to explore expanding the local alumni chapter, re-establishing undergraduate chapters in the territory and supporting local community-service initiatives.

The delegation was to include Battles’ wife, Geraldine Woods Battle; Ulysses McBride, a past grand polemarch; Bertram Orum, Southern Province polemarch, and his wife; and John Burrell, the fraternity’s executive director.

Government House said the trip would include tours, organizational meetings and a reception with members of other Greek organizations chartered in the territory.

Kappa Alpha Psi was founded in 1911 at Indiana University and changed its name from Kappa Alpha Nu to Kappa Alpha Psi in 1915.
