BIR, Finance Department distributed $10 million in income tax refunds

Government House said on April 24, 2023, that the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Department of Finance were distributing $10 million in income-tax refunds.

Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. said the agencies were issuing 3,247 checks for properly filed returns for tax year 2021 and earlier, through March 14, 2022.

According to the Bureau of Internal Revenue, 2,025 checks totaling $5,093,845 were for tax year 2021; 581 checks totaling $2,318,483 were for tax year 2020; 372 checks totaling $1,080,465 were for tax year 2019; and 269 checks totaling $707,205 were for tax year 2018 and earlier.

Motta also said the bureau had launched an online excise-tax portal at bir.vi.gov.
