Mapp disputed Daily News report on salaries and promotions at Government House
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp said on June 7, 2018, that a Virgin Islands Daily News report about salary increases for government officials contained factual errors and omitted information about promotions at Government House.
Mapp said the newspaper incorrectly reported that Lt. Gov. Osbert Potter received a $10,000 pay increase to $112,000. He said the lieutenant governor’s salary was set by law under Title 3, Section 31 of the Virgin Islands Code at $125,000 and could be changed only by the Legislature.
Mapp also said two Government House employees cited in the article had been promoted to positions with greater responsibility. He said Eugene Farrell was promoted from senior policy adviser to chief of staff in September 2017 at a salary of $125,000, and that the previous chief of staff, Randolph Knight, had been paid $130,000 a year.
Mapp said Samuel Carrion, who had worked as a Government House communications specialist, was promoted to senior policy adviser at $75,000 a year after the 2017 hurricanes.
The June 7 statement also criticized the Daily News' coverage of Government House personnel matters.
