Jaschen led Emergency Management Committee meeting on May 16 ahead of hurricane season

Col. Daryl Jaschen, Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.'s nominee to lead the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, led an Emergency Management Committee meeting on May 16 at VITEMA headquarters on St. Thomas ahead of the June 1 start of hurricane season.

Gov. Bryan, Cabinet members, representatives of FEMA, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, the Virgin Islands Port Authority, other agencies and members of the governor's staff attended the meeting.

According to Government House, the committee discussed communications, pre- and post-storm storage, resources for post-storm distribution, storm shelter options and related issues.

Agency officials also gave updates on oxygen supplies, fuel purchasing and storage, post-storm procurement and contract procedures, government data storage and communications systems, the opening of the Myrah Keating Clinic and modular facility on St. John, the status of medical facilities, shelter availability, feeding plans, emergency first aid and fire service equipment and search-and-rescue deployment plans.

Government House said the next Emergency Management Committee meeting was scheduled for June 20.
