Health Department reported second confirmed COVID-19 case in U.S. Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands Department of Health said on March 17, 2020, that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had confirmed a second case of COVID-19 in the territory.

The department said the territory's two confirmed cases were in the St. Croix district and the St. Thomas-St. John district.

The agency said its Epidemiology Division was continuing testing for cases that met person-under-investigation criteria, conducting contact tracing, and assisting health-care providers and the public.

The department advised people with flu-like symptoms who had traveled within the previous 14 days to China, Iran, South Korea, Europe, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New York, California or Washington state to self-quarantine and call the department.

The statement also said residents should take precautions including staying home when sick, limiting contact with others, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning contaminated surfaces, and washing hands frequently.
