House funding measure proposed temporary extension of 100% Medicaid match for U.S. Virgin Islands
Government House said on Sept. 19, 2019, that members of the U.S. House of Representatives had agreed to include in a continuing resolution a temporary extension of the 100% Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage for the U.S. Virgin Islands and other territories.
According to the statement, the extension would have run through Nov. 21, 2019, ahead of the Sept. 30, 2019 expiration of existing benefits.
Government House said the territory was receiving temporary Medicaid funding through the Affordable Care Act and the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which supported more than 28,000 Medicaid enrollees in the Virgin Islands.
The statement said the Virgin Islands received a temporary 100% FMAP after hurricanes Irma and Maria disrupted hospital operations in September 2017. It said the territory's regular federal Medicaid match is capped at 55% under federal law.
Government House also said Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. planned to return to Washington the following week to meet with members of Congress and officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
