Bryan Met With Federal Lawmakers and Officials on Medicaid, Recovery and St. John School Project
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. began a week of meetings in Washington on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, with lawmakers and federal officials on issues affecting the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to Government House.
On October 29, Bryan and senior staff met with Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett to discuss House legislation related to the territory's Medicaid funding shortfall and possible expansion of Plaskett's proposed special visa waiver legislation. They also met with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officials on disaster-recovery progress and with U.S. Department of the Interior officials on construction of a new school on St. John.
Government House said the October 29 meetings also included Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan and House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Bryan and senior staff met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California to discuss Medicaid funding, federal disaster-recovery funding and other federal issues affecting the territory. Government House said additional meetings were scheduled that day with Treasury Deputy Secretary Justin Muzinich, Rep. Daren Soto of Florida, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi and Rep. Maxine Waters of California.
