The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on September 25, 2023, that electrical service had been restored on St. Thomas and St. John following a major service interruption.

In a statement released by board Chairman Kyle Fleming, the authority said line crews, operators and engineers had worked throughout the previous week to identify the problem and restore service. The statement said the restoration effort resulted in no injuries or safety incidents.

Fleming said the governing board would investigate the interruption and work with WAPA leadership on steps aimed at reducing the likelihood of a similar outage and improving service quality.
