Bryan met with 35th Legislature to discuss priorities, derelict buildings bill

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with members of the 35th Legislature on Oct. 18, 2023, to discuss the administration’s legislative priorities, including draft legislation addressing derelict and abandoned buildings.

Government House said Bryan shared the latest version of the proposal during the meeting. The administration said it had revised the measure after holding public town hall meetings in St. Thomas and St. Croix in August 2023.

Government House said the latest version of the bill would be released for a 30-day public comment period.

During the meeting, Senate President Novelle Francis said several senators had also filed drafting requests on the issue of abandoned and dilapidated properties.

Lawmakers also asked about recovery efforts and the status of various projects, and Bryan and members of his cabinet and policy team provided updates, according to Government House.
