Bryan issued statement on EPA conditions for restarting Limetree Bay refinery
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on June 18, 2021, after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced conditions for resuming operations at the Limetree Bay refinery, including additional emissions monitoring.
In the statement, Bryan said he welcomed the EPA findings and recommended actions and said he had been in communication with EPA Regional Acting Administrator Walter Mugdan and EPA headquarters. He said he had been assured the conditions were not intended to prevent a timely restart of the refinery.
Bryan also said Limetree Bay Refining's chief executive officer had assured him the company was willing and able to comply with the EPA's conditions, including a request for additional monitoring stations on St. Croix. He said his administration's position was to protect residents' health and safety, protect the environment and preserve the economic benefits of refinery operations.
