Portraits of former Govs. Schneider and Turnbull unveiled at Government House

Official portraits of former Govs. Roy Lester Schneider and Charles Wesley Turnbull were unveiled on June 4, 2018, during a ceremony at Government House on St. Croix.

The portraits, painted by local artist Shansi Miller, were described by Government House as part of a project to create portraits of all of the territory’s elected governors.

Schneider and Turnbull attended the ceremony and gave remarks. The audience included family members, former staff members, senators, commissioners and other government officials.

Government House said the original portraits were to be displayed at Government House on St. Thomas after repairs to that building were completed. Prints were to be placed at Government House in Christiansted and Frederiksted and at the Battery on St. John.

During the ceremony, Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp said Pissarro paintings were being housed at Government House in Christiansted and would remain there until Government House on St. Thomas was restored.
