New VIPD recruit class began training on St. Thomas and St. Croix

A new Virgin Islands Police Department recruit class began training at the Police Academy in late April and early May 2018, according to Government House.

Classes started on St. Thomas on April 23, 2018, and on St. Croix on May 1, 2018. VIPD Public Information Officer Glenn Dratte said a larger group of recruits was scheduled to begin training in June 2018.

The academy added curriculum for Peace Officers Standards and Training certification, the announcement said.

Government House also said the department was continuing to recruit new officers and that the starting salary for officers had been increased to $40,953, with health insurance and other benefits.
