Tropical Storm Isaac expected to pass south of St. Croix, with heavy rain possible
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp said on Sept. 13, 2018, that Tropical Storm Isaac was expected to pass more than 120 miles south of St. Croix, with heavy rain possible in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mapp said officials did not anticipate tropical-storm-force or hurricane-force winds, but said the territory could receive rain and be placed under a flash flood watch.
After speaking with the National Weather Service and Virgin Islands Emergency Management Agency officials on Sept. 13, Mapp said St. Croix was expected to receive 2 to 4 inches of rain beginning Thursday evening, Sept. 13. He said that if rain bands persisted, the National Weather Service could upgrade a flash flood watch to a flash flood warning, which would trigger the emergency alert system.
Mapp said intermittent rain bands were expected on St. Croix as Isaac passed south of the island. He said less rain was forecast for St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island.
