Bryan convened telehealth workgroup in U.S. Virgin Islands
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. convened the first meeting of a telehealth workgroup on Jan. 29 to begin planning and implementing telehealth services in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to Government House.
The group included public- and private-sector stakeholders and was tasked with leading regulation and implementation of health information technology in the territory and coordinating telehealth services among healthcare providers. The article identified former Delegate to Congress Donna Christian and Reuben Molloy as members.
According to the administration, the workgroup's priorities included policy and regulation, such as Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, malpractice insurance coverage, provider licensing and enabling legislation.
The group also was to assess technical infrastructure, including broadband capacity and access, and plan for disaster resiliency and redundancy. It also was to examine practitioner and patient readiness and seek available federal resources to support coordination of its activities.
The administration said it had received a $14 million award in October from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to build a Health Information Exchange for Virgin Islands Medicaid recipients.
