Deadline for emergency prescription assistance in U.S. Virgin Islands extended to May 15

The federal Emergency Prescription Assistance Program for uninsured disaster survivors in the U.S. Virgin Islands was extended through May 15, 2018, at the territory’s request, Government House said on March 29, 2018.

The program provided a free 30-day replacement of certain prescription drugs and medical supplies for Virgin Islanders who had no prescription insurance coverage and lost medicine or supplies because of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

To qualify, applicants had to have a current prescription. People covered by Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or private insurance were not eligible.

Government House said many pharmacies in the territory were participating in the program, which was managed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and funded by FEMA.
