Bryan attended Blue Tide Caribbean Summit in Puerto Rico and met with Gov. Pedro Pierluisi

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. attended the first Blue Tide Caribbean Summit in Puerto Rico on Aug. 5, 2021, where he discussed efforts to expand the U.S. Virgin Islands’ blue economy.

According to Government House, Bryan cited increased vessel registrations during the pandemic and investments including an agribusiness aquaponics center on St. Croix as signs of growth potential in the marine industry.

He also pointed to capital projects tied to the sector, including improvements to the fishing dock at Hull Bay on St. Thomas and to the Ann Abramson, Kings Alley and Gallows Bay piers on St. Croix.

During the summit, Bryan met with Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Pierluisi to discuss partnership opportunities and strategies involving blue-economy business development, including export services, technology, products and knowledge.

Government House said Bryan was scheduled to meet on Aug. 6, 2021, with the executive director of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Juan before returning to the territory.
