Bryan attends opening of rebuilt Customs facility in Cruz Bay
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 8, 2021, for a rebuilt U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in Cruz Bay, St. John.
The all-concrete building replaced a trailer that had served as a customs clearance center before it was destroyed by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
The Virgin Islands Port Authority opened the facility with Executive Director Carlton Dowe. The government said the new facility was expected to operate at full capacity when the British Virgin Islands reopened its ports to visitors later in April 2021.
Others attending the ceremony included Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett, CBP Area Port Director Todd Bellew, Port Authority Board Chairwoman Leona Smith, Senate Majority Leader Marvin Blyden, Sen. at-large Steven Payne Sr., and Port Authority Director of Engineering Damian Cartwright.
