WAPA board approved extension of diesel supply contract

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s governing board approved an extension of its existing diesel supply contract with Borinken on October 26, 2023, through March 31, 2024, at the same terms and conditions as the current contract, with a value not to exceed $19 million.

According to WAPA, the vote was yes from Chairman Fleming, yes from Member Boynes-Jackson, yes from Member Selwood, abstention from Member Turnbull, and Secretary Young absent.

The board also discussed St. Croix’s potable water problems and efforts by WAPA and other agencies to improve water quality for customers in the near and long term. Chief Operating Officer Ashley Bryan also provided an update on the Randolph Harley Power Plant new generation project and WAPA’s Wärtsilä maintenance plan, including a goal of fully training employees on operation of the Wärtsilä units.

WAPA said September 2023 ended with no reported workplace injuries.
