Bryan urged support for St. John land swap tied to proposed school
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on February 23 that a proposed land swap between the Virgin Islands government and the National Park Service should move forward if it is needed to build a new school on St. John.
The statement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Arthur A. Richards pre-K-8 school on St. Croix.
Government House said Bryan was responding to opposition on St. John to the proposed land swap, which it said would allow construction of a new school on the island.
Bryan said a land swap was not his preferred solution, but said it was the option available to move the project forward. He said delaying action could mean waiting another decade for a different solution.
"I don’t like the fact that we have to swap out land with the National Park," Bryan said. "But guess what, it’s either do that now or do nothing at all."
