Paradise Jam scheduled to return to St. Thomas in November 2018

Government House said on October 13, 2018, that the Paradise Jam college basketball tournament was scheduled to return to the U.S. Virgin Islands from November 16 through November 24 at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas.

The administration said Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp met on October 12, 2018, with Basketball Travelers Executive Director Nels Hawkinson to discuss the schedule for the 19th annual event.

According to Government House, the tournament was set to feature 24 games, all to be streamed on FloHoops.com. The men’s competition was scheduled to open at 2 p.m. on November 16 with Oregon State facing Old Dominion. The women’s portion was scheduled for November 22 through November 24, with four games each day.

Government House said the 2018 field included eight alumni teams, including four past Paradise Jam champions. The returning men’s teams were Eastern Kentucky, Kansas State, Northern Iowa and Old Dominion, while the returning women’s teams were Kentucky, Purdue, South Florida and UConn.

The tournament was not held in 2017 after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
