Office of Health Information Technology held first Digital Health Summit on St. Thomas

The Office of Health Information Technology held its first Digital Health Summit on July 26 and 27, 2022, at the Charles Turnbull Regional Library on St. Thomas.

According to Government House, the event brought together more than 20 national and international health-information-technology companies that sponsored the summit and exhibited their products. Speakers came from organizations including Google, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Howard University, Microsoft, Meditech, the Office of the National Coordinator, viNGN and the Virgin Islands Bureau of Information Technology.

Government House said local and federal government representatives and private-sector participants discussed telemedicine, interoperability, secure data exchange and development of the U.S. Virgin Islands Health Information Exchange.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Ernest Carter, chief health officer of Maryland's Prince George's County Health Department.

Government House said the Office of Health Information Technology was established in 2021 and is led by Executive Director Michelle Francis.
