Bryan added vaccine cash drawing for school-based personnel

Government House said on June 14, 2021, that Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. had expanded the territory’s vaccination incentive program to include a separate cash drawing for school-based personnel in public, private and parochial schools.

The administration said the drawing was limited to employees who work in the Virgin Islands education system and would award three prizes in each district: $25,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place and $5,000 for third place.

Government House said the drawing was scheduled for Aug. 9, 2021, and was open to school-based personnel with a workstation in a territorial school, including principals, teachers, guidance counselors, cafeteria workers and school monitors, as well as school bus drivers.

Unlike the previously announced weekly general vaccination drawing, eligible school personnel had to register so the Health Department could verify eligibility. Government House said registration details would be announced later.

The administration also said additional incentives for minors vaccinated before the start of the 2021-22 school year would be announced.

At the same briefing, University of the Virgin Islands President David Hall and Microsoft representative William Adams discussed the USVI 2021 Technology Summit, a five-day event focused on technology and access to technology in the territory. Hall said UVI planned to use the former West Bay supermarket on St. Thomas for an Innovation Center and planned a similar facility on St. Croix.

Government House also reported that 42,463 first vaccine doses had been administered and 34,290 people were fully vaccinated. It said the territory was tracking 109 active COVID-19 cases as of June 12, 2021, with a positivity rate of 3.09%.
